Japan Airlines was among the first of Boeing’s customers to receive the new 787 Dreamliner last year. Since then, some planes have experienced delamination problems with the aircraft’s composite fuselage panels and others have suffered from electrical issues similar to today’s incident.
All Nippon Airlines grounded 5 of its 11 Dreamliners earlier this year due to corrosion issues with the Rolls-Royce engines and Qatar Airlines and United Continental Holdings (NYSE: UAL) were struck by a generator problem that forced the United plane to make an emergency landing. A second Dreamliner in United’s fleet has also been hit recently by electrical problems.
The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board has started an investigation into today’s incident.
Shares of Boeing are down about 2% at $76.17 in a 52-week range of $66.82 to $78.02.
