For those of you keeping score at home, the Paris Air Show has to be considered a major success for both Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) and its main rival, Airbus, a unit of European Aeronautic Space & Defense Co. Airbus said this morning that it booked orders and commitments valued at $68.7 billion at the show, while Boeing said it booked about $66.4 billion.

Airbus claims firm purchase orders for 241 new planes worth a total of $39.3 billion and commitments for another $29.4 billion. Year-to-date, Airbus says it has a total of 758 orders and expects to exceed 800 “comfortably” in 2013.

Boeing’s firm orders total more than $40 billion and do not include 102 bookings for the company’s 787-10 Dreamliner. Boeing says it has 692 net orders so far in 2013.

While Airbus claims the lead in new orders, Boeing is still expected to deliver more planes in 2013. So far this year, Airbus claims to have delivered 247 new planes, compared to 245 claimed for Boeing.
