Non-Defense-Company Winners of Pentagon Contracts

Many of the contracts awarded in the Department of Defense’s Friday evening awards announcement went to companies less commonly associated with the military. Here are a few of these non-traditional winners:

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock (Nasdaq: GLDD) won a $25.4 million firm-fixed-price contract to dredge the main channel of the Delaware River near Philadelphia for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This work should be completed by March 31, 2015.

Timken (NYSE: TKR) was awarded a $14 million contract modification to supply main reduction gear assemblies for U.S. Navy DDG 51-class guided missile destroyers. The main reduction gear is the set of gears that transmits power from two main propulsion power turbines to the destroyer’s propulsion shaft. Each DDG 51-class destroyer has two gear sets, one for each propulsion shaft. Timken is expected to deliver these assemblies by May 2016.
