The Department of Defense awarded 32 defense contracts in its Friday evening announcement of awards, with a total value of $787.5 million. Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) turned out to be the day’s biggest winner, booking three separate awards:
- $38 million cost-plus-fixed-fee contract to perform logistics and engineering services for the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command’s Joint Tactical Ground Station (JTAGS) system Block 1 fielded units through July 31, 2018.
- $13 million contract modification for work on the Enhanced Integrated Sensor Suite (EISS) Timing and Control (TAC) Module A-3 replacement effort for the U.S. Air Force. This contract will now run through June 30, 2015, and, with the additional funds, exceeds $2.3 billion in total cumulative face value.
- $20.9 million contract modification to perform integration services on mission packages to be carried by U.S. Navy Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) through January 2015.

Among the other publicly traded defense contractors winning awards:
- BAE Systems (OTC: BAESY) won a $7.1 million cost-plus-fixed-fee, sole-source contract to perform design and support work on MK 45 5-inch gun systems for the U.S. Navy through May 2015. This contract includes options which, if exercised, would extend its duration and raise the cumulative contract value to $44.4 million.
- Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) was awarded a $41.2 million contract modification for work on Highly Elliptical Orbit (HEO) satellites’ Transition to Operations, specifically including the addition of HEO-4 launch work and early on-orbit test capabilities on the HEO-3. Work covered by this modification will continue through Sept. 30, 2018. This modification raises the total cumulative value of this contract to Lockheed Martin past $3.2 billion.
- Exelis (NYSE: XLS) was awarded a $143.1 million contract modification to provide operations and maintenance support for Title X communications equipment and information systems under the U.S. Army’s Network Enterprise Technology Command. Work under this contract will be performed in Afghanistan, Bahrain, and Kuwait through May 31, 2015.
General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) won two awards:
- $12.7 million contract modification to supply the U.S. Army with an additional 100,000 explosive cartridges; 10,521 explosive d 5-inch rounds; 5,163 explosive d dye-filled rounds; 34,436 improved conventional munitions; 1,116,122 medium caliber rounds, and 999,940 ammunition fuses. Delivery is due May 27, 2015.
- An undefinitized contract action (i.e., a contract with no price yet fixed) for its shipbuilding NASSCO-Mayport subsidiary. Worth up to $23.2 million, this contract will have NASSCO performing maintenance and repair work on the guided missile cruiser USS Hue City through November 2014.
