Nissan North America issued a recall notice for nearly 300,000 of its 2012 to 2014 Versa Sedan and 2014 to 2015 Versa Note models to fix a trim piece that may interfere with a driver’s foot.
According to a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA):
In certain rare instances, a driver’s shoe could contact the edge of the center console lower trim panel and potentially impede smooth pedal operation. More specifically, in certain rare instances that are dependent on driver foot position and shoe type, the right edge of the driver’s shoe may catch the edge of the center console lower trim panel.
If this occurs, the brake and accelerator pedals remain fully operational with no loss of vehicle control. However, this condition could cause a slight delay in the smooth transition between the accelerator pedal and the brake pedal which may increase the braking distance; therefore increasing the risk of a crash.
A recall campaign is already underway, and Nissan said that owners of the vehicles have been notified.
In the other recall, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. (NYSE: FCAU) is recalling about 7,800 Jeep Renegades to make a software upgrade designed to block remote access to the vehicles. In July, researchers hacked into a Jeep Cherokee’s information system and were able to gain control over the vehicle’s engine and steering. Later that month, Chrysler recalled 1.4 million vehicles for a similar problem that the company had first identified in January of 2014.
