Toyota Outsold Ford in November

With total unit sales of 189,517 units, Toyota Motor Corp.’s (NYSE: TM) U.S. sales outdistanced sales from Detroit’s Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) which reported sales of 187,794 units. Ford outsold Toyota in October by about 10,000 units. Toyota’s total sales include the company’s Lexus division and Ford’s include the Lincoln division.

On a volume basis November sales of Toyota vehicles rose 2.8% and sales of Lexus vehicles rose 6.8%. Among the notable sales numbers:

  • Camry posted sales of 30,945 units, up 7.3%
  • All-new Scion iA and iM posted combined sales of 2,876 units
  • Total Toyota Division light trucks up 5.5% for a best-ever November
  • Highlander SUV posted sales of 12,741 units
  • 4Runner sales up 5.6%
  • RAV4 sales up almost 30% for a best-ever November

Mid-size Tacoma pickup posted sales of 13,465 units, up 3.4%A Toyota USA executive noted that the company had its best Black Friday weekend sales in eight years, and the general manager of the Lexus division was also upbeat:

Lexus had its best November sales in the brand’s history with record performances in sales, parts, service, customer care and vehicle quality. Considering the industry momentum and the strong early sales pace of the 2016 RX, Lexus is well positioned to post its best-ever calendar year sales.

Year-to-date sales volume for Toyota and Lexus brands combined is up 4.7% to 2.26 million units, still behind total Ford and Lincoln sales of 2.73 million units. Total company sales at Ford are up 5% for the year to date.
