F-Series Sales Boost Ford to 6% June Sales Gain

Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) on Wednesday reported a U.S. sales increase of 6% year-over-year in June, to 240,109 Ford and Lincoln vehicles, compared with June 2015 sales of 225,647. Truck sales rose 24.2% for the month, and sales of F Series pickups rose 28.6%.

Total sales compare to an estimate of 238,000 by analysts at Edmunds.com. Kelley Blue Book (KBB) estimated Ford’s June sales at 235,000 at an average transaction price of $36,786, up 0.1% month-over-month, and up 3.8% compared with June of last year. KBB transaction prices do not include applied consumer incentives.

Sales of the Ford F-Series pickups rose 28.6% in June to 70,937 units. In May Ford sold 67,412 F-Series trucks following an April sales total of 70,774. For the year to date, F-Series pickup sales are up 10.7%.

Truck sales comprised about 40% of all Ford sales in June, and the F-Series pickups accounted for nearly 30% of total sales in June.

Sales of the company’s SUVs posted a year-to-date gain of 8.6% for the first half of 2016. Escape sales rose 20.2% year over year in June and are up 6.1% year to date. Edge sales tumbled 11.2% in the month but are 11.7% higher year to date. The Expedition saw a sales increase of 86.2% compared with June of 2015 and year-to-date Expedition sales are up 33%. and Explorer sales fell 14.8% for the month and are up just 2.6% year to date.

Sales of the all-new Transit utility van totaled 14,437 units in June, up 19% compared with June 2015 and up 36.1% year to date to a total of 78,480 units

Sales of the Lincoln brand rose 5.8% year-over-year in June as sales of Lincoln utility vehicles rose by 7.2%. Car sales totaled 3,173 units in the month and utility vehicle sales totaled 5,636 units. Car sales rose 3.4% year over year in June, but are down 5% for the year to date.

The stock traded up about 1.7% Friday morning at $12.78 in a 52-week range of $10.44 to $15.84.
