Ford's Recall Reaches as Far as Police Interceptors

Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) has reported that it will begin conducting multiple recalls on Wednesday, some being especially far-reaching. In a couple specific instances, Ford is recalling its 2017 Ford Police Interceptor utility vehicles and 2016 Ford Escape vehicles.
Separately, Ford announced a safety recall for approximately 400,000 vehicles to replace the driveshaft flexible coupling. These vehicles mainly fell in the category of 2015 to 2017 Ford Transit vans/buses with medium, long and extended wheelbases and chassis cab/cutaways with medium wheelbases.
In terms of the police vehicles, Ford is issuing a safety compliance recall for four Ford Police Interceptor utility vehicles in the United States to repair second row seat attachment studs. In the affected vehicles, seats with missing inboard attachments may not adequately restrain an occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Keep in mind, practically all of these injuries would occur in those being arrested and riding in the back, not the actual officers.
Ford is also issuing a safety compliance recall for three Ford Escape vehicles in the United States to replace driver knee airbag modules.
According to the car manufacturing giant:
In the affected vehicles, in the event of a driver knee airbag deployment, the airbag cushion may not inflate as intended due to the lack of inflator gas generant material. Incomplete airbag fill during a commanded deployment may increase the risk of injury to the driver in a crash.
So far in 2017, Ford has vastly underperformed the broad markets, with the stock down about 8% year to date.
Shares of Ford were last seen at $11.12 on Wednesday, with a consensus analyst price target of $12.80 and a 52-week range of $10.67 to $14.04.
