The North American International Auto Show opens in Detroit this weekend and carmakers will be showing off their latest models as well as concept drawings and models. Mercedes-Benz, fresh off its second consecutive year as the world’s best selling luxury auto brand, is showing off for the first time its 2018 G Class SUV.
The G Class vehicles come in 4 models: the G 550 SUV, with an MSRP of $123,600; the G 550 4×4 SUV, MSRP of $227,300; the AMG G 63 SUV, with an MSRP of $142,800; and the AMG G 65 SUV, MSRP of $222,700.
The two G 550 models come with an 4.0-liter V8 that generates 416 horsepower. The AMG G 63 gets a 5.5-liter V8 that generates 563 horsepower and the AMG G 65 gets a 6.0-liter V12 that cranks out 621 horsepower.
When the new models were announced in December, Mercedes-Benz noted:
Since 1979 more than 300,000 vehicles have allowed their owners to experience adventures that would have been unachievable with any other vehicle. Outwardly, the “G” has changed very little. But in fact this very special off-roader has constantly reinvented itself. With its completely updated interior and numerous new features, the G-Class has now undergone the most significant transformation of its almost 40-year career, in technical as well as stylistic terms – while staying true to itself.
More details are promised at the Detroit show. Mercedes-Benz is also revealing its new GLS 450 4Matic and GLS 550 4Matic at the Detroit show.
