In May 2024, Miami Beach Police unveiled a new police car as part of their fleet: a Rolls-Royce. Rolls-Royce luxury cars are well-known for their intense personalization and high price point, with prices typically starting in the mid-$300,000 range. Some ocal citizens feel like this purchase was too lofty. However, the department has hope that the Rolls-Royce might incentivize new recruits to join the squad.

Miami Beach Police is certainly not the first law enforcement entity using expensive or luxury cars. For example, the Los Angeles Police Department added the Lamborghini Gallardo, an ultra-luxury Italian sports car, to its fleet as a public relations tool to enhance youth engagement. With a top speed of roughly 200 mph, this Lambo truly stands out, even though three cars on this list have it beat! (Love Italian luxury? Check out these eight must-try Italian car brands.)

Another rare and luxury police vehicle is Riverside Police Department’s Ford Mustang Saleen S302, donated to the department in 2017. Only 350 Ford Mustang Saleen S302’s are built each year. With a whopping 730 horsepower, this is easily one of the most powerful cars in any police fleet in the country. However, most police departments use these vehicles for public relations and community appeal rather than for actual transportation or crime-fighting. (If you love horsepower, here are the fastest cars that every autophile should test drive.)

24/7 Wall St. reviewed various state, media, and police sources to identify the most rare and expensive police supercars in America. We included vehicle specifications, including horsepower, model year, and top speed. We also included notable police departments that own the vehicle. The vehicles are listed alphabetically.

According to the Urban Institute, state and local governments across the United States spent approximately $135 billion on police. Understanding why certain police departments choose luxury vehicles provides a deeper look into public spending. This list can help you explore what initiatives or strategies law enforcement agencies are pursuing to reach and serve their communities.
