Bed Bath & Beyond Still Carries Ivanka Trump Merchandise

Late last week, press stories claimed that Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. (NASDAQ: BBBY) was the latest retailer to dump the Ivanka Trump line of merchandise. The company’s management took to Facebook to thwart these rumors, blaming them on an unknown employee. The Trump line has been discontinued by several retailers that have worried about customer reactions to products sold by the president’s daughter.

Ivanka Trump recently took the official role of Assistant to the President.

The Facebook post from Bed Bath & Beyond:

We want to apologize for recent confusion caused by one of our customer service representatives. Our customer service representative inadvertently provided information to a customer that was not accurate. We are not making our merchandising decisions based on anyone’s political beliefs. We have Ivanka Trump products in some stores and carry them where consumer demand and business performance justifies it. Bed Bath & Beyond strives to provide our customers with a wide variety of high quality product choices across our businesses that fit their varying preferences.

The rumor was started by a site called GrabYourWallet.

The Ivanka Trump line of clothing and accessories includes dresses, pants, athletic wear, purses, shoes and other accessories. The products are considered moderately priced, with a number of items selling for less than $200.

Retailers that have dropped the Ivanka Trump line include Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Gilt. Many retailers, including Amazon.com, still carry the products.
