Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE: KO) has long been an American staple with its iconic drink at the forefront. There have been multiple iterations of the soda, some more popular than others, but all have been generally received well. Early on Wednesday, the soda dispensing giant made a huge announcement, that it would be launching a full brand restage for Diet Coke.
Diet Coke has more or less held the same design and packaging, but after 35 years Coca-Cola is turning the brand on its head. The company is now marketing a new sleek look and modern design, as well as launching four new flavors: Diet Coke Ginger Lime, Diet Coke Feisty Cherry, Diet Coke Twisted Mango and Diet Coke Zesty Blood Orange.
Some might be wondering why change an iconic drink that has been a cash cow for this company? Coca-Cola simply did this “because we can.”
Coca-Cola went into further detail in its release:
Because every good icon knows that evolution is everything. That’s why we’re rolling out a modern design and adding new sleek cans – still 12 ounces with that old-school Diet Coke vibe and great taste.
Because after speaking to more than 10,000 people and spending years exploring all kinds of combinations like tropical, citrus and even botanical notes, we found magic. Introducing Diet Coke Ginger Lime, Diet Coke Feisty Cherry, Diet Coke Zesty Blood Orange and Diet Coke Twisted Mango into the Diet Coke family. Trust us when we say, you haven’t tasted anything like this before.
The new cans are expected to hit shelves in mid-January.
Shares of Coca-Cola traded at $46.06 on Wednesday, with a consensus analyst price target of $49.30 and a 52-week range of $40.22 to $47.48.
