Kraft Heinz Co. (NASDAQ: KHC) and Oprah Winfrey launched new pizzas as part of the “O, That’s Good!” joint venture. They seem fairly low-cal at first, at about 320 calories per serving. That puts the pies at about 1,500 calories each.
It is worth comparing the Oprah pizzas to those from commercial fast-food chains. A slice of Little Caesars Ultimate Supreme Pizza has 310 calories. Little Caesars considers the slice a serving, whether that makes sense or not.
Christopher Urban, Head of Mealtime Stories at Kraft Heinz, said as the new pizzas were launched:
At Kraft Heinz, we understand that the trifecta of great taste, real ingredients and convenience in food options is nearly impossible to find. After the success of O, That’s Good! Refrigerated Soups and Sides, we wanted to bring excitement to the pizza category and give families even more delicious options to please everyone at the dinner table.
“Real ingredients”? “Impossible to find”? Probably not. For people who believe that the proof is in the eating, a list:
O, That’s Good! Frozen Pizza (SRP: $6.99) is available in the frozen pizza aisle at grocery stores nationwide in four varieties: Pepperoni, Five Cheese, Supreme, and Fire Roasted Veggie.
Little Caesars sells pizzas for $8. And they aren’t frozen.
