Bets On For Flash Memory Shortage (SNDK, MU, AMAT, KLAC)

Have you been reading about flash memory shortages coming during the current consumer electronics boom? Whether or not this comes true this time is something that will be seen, but Morningstar’s John Ayling has outlined several stocks that would likely benefit, with caveats of course, from a flash memory shortage in his “Strategies for Playing a Flash Memory Shortage.” SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ: SNDK) and Micron Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: MU) are the two direct issues, while Applied Materials Inc. (NASDAQ: AMAT) and KLA-Tencor Corporation (NASDAQ: KLAC) are still among Morningstar’s favorite of the old “big stocks with big upside” (call from just last week) that would likely benefit. The author further noted, “We recommend that investors avoid the temptation to time the flash memory stocks and instead consider certain chip equipment firms that would benefit indirectly from a flash memory shortage.”
