Lithium Battery Is Tech Product of 2014

It sits in consumer devices from portable games to flashlights to toys to cameras, using among the most widely used technology in American. It is the lithium battery. Tech developments have improved its performance on a regular basis. This year, the development made a leap.

In 2014, the Energizer Advanced Lithium AA Battery reached the point where it can be stored for 10 years. It is 33% lighter than an alkaline battery of the same dimensions. It lasts 20 hours longer than a typical alkaline battery. Its competition from Duracell can make similar claims. In a Consumer Report test however, the Energizer Product was superior:

Overall, the tested lithium batteries performed much better than the alkalines, especially in cameras, which tend to drain a charge quickly. But alkalines cost far less, and some perform almost as well as lithiums in low-drain devices such as flashlights and remotes.

Also:

In our camera test, which mimics everyday use (zooming, flashing, shooting, and resting until batteries die), a top-rated Energizer lithium took 609 shots; the best of the alkalines, a Duracell, 76 shots; and the lowest-rated alkaline, just 49 shots.

The price of the batteries is $5.50 per pair.

These batteries can hold energy longer when recharged. According to Consumer Reports, environmentalists will favor these:

Rechargeable batteries are a greener choice than any of the tested types. In past tests, precharged rechargeables from the major manufacturers provided about 300 shots out of the box and about 400 shots on their subsequent charge.

The batteries are widely available too, from retail outlets like Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT) and e-commerce sites like Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN).

The Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhone 6 may take pictures, allow text technology and field phone calls. A wide range of features, but nowhere close to those of an advanced lithium battery.

By the way, this post is April Fool in December.
