Best Buy Pushes Toy Sales as Holidays Approach

courtesy of Amazon.com

For some, it’s never too early to think about holiday gift shopping. Best Buy Co. Inc. (NYSE: BBY), for example, has begun promoting holiday toys and it looks like the consumer electronics retailer is betting on drones this year.

Last year, toy robots, Lego kits, and movie-related items led toy sales. These toys remain popular this year, at least judging by the items Best Buy is promoting. But, at least for now, pride of placement goes to drones.

Visit the Best Buy homepage and click on the “Toys, Games & Drones” link. The top of the linked page features drones and if you scroll down a bit, Best Buy lists its drones by price points.

Among drones for sale for less than $200, the least expensive is a GPX — Sky Rider Drone with remote controller (model #DR176R) for $29.99 and $5.99 shipping. Free shipping does not begin until you spend $35 on a single order.

The least expensive drone with an included camera is the GPX — Sky Rider Drone with remote controller (model #DRC376R) for $59.99 and free shipping. Both this and the previous drone are new according to Best Buy and neither has any customer reviews yet.

Best Buy has two other price categories for drones: $200 to $799 and $800 or more. The most expensive drone on offer is a DJI — Inspire 1 V2.0 (model #CP.BX.000103) for $1,999.99 and free shipping. This one comes with a 4K video camera and wireless HD video transmission.

The best selling robot toy is the WowWee MiP Robot (model #821) for $60.99 with free shipping. The toy is recommended for children ages 8 and up.

The most expensive robot toy is a Hexbug Vex IQ robotics construction kit for $249.99, a savings of $50 from the regular price. Standard shipping is free.
