Imagine buying a product only to find out its premier feature does not work. The Verge found out via tests that the cellular connection feature on the Apple Watch Series 3 sometimes fails. The main upgrade from earlier versions of the device is that ability to talk, text and use Siri over 4G networks.
After tests of a Series 3 device revealed the flaw, the Verge got in touch with Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL). And it was told:
We have discovered that when Apple Watch Series 3 joins unauthenticated Wi-Fi networks without connectivity, it may at times prevent the watch from using cellular. We are investigating a fix for a future software release.
It is not clear how often the problem occurs or how difficult it will be for Apple to get the release to Apple Watch buyers. The product has not shipped to the general public.
Even if the trouble is very limited, it puts a dent in Apple’s reputation for building products that are almost always flawless. Particularly because so many people are looking for flaws.
