A purported herbal sexual health supplement called O.M.G. has been found by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to contain generic sildenafil, the active ingredient in Pfizer Inc.’s (NYSE: PFE) patented Viagra erectile dysfunction treatment. The O.M.G. product was being sold  in some drug stores and online, including at the Sears.com, the website for Sears Holding Co. Inc.’s (NASDAQ: SHLD) Sears stores.

The FDA warned:

FDA laboratory analysis confirmed that O.M.G. contains sildenafil, the active ingredient in the FDA-approved prescription drug Viagra, used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). This undeclared ingredient may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs such as nitroglycerin and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels. Men with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease often take nitrates.

The FDA said that consumers should stop using O.M.G. immediately and throw it away.

The FDA also noted that this warning is intended to “inform the public of a growing trend of dietary supplement or conventional foods with hidden drugs and chemicals. These products are typically promoted for sexual enhancement, weight loss, and body building, and are often represented as being ‘all natural.’ FDA is unable to test and identify all products marketed as dietary supplements that have potentially harmful hidden ingredients. Consumers should exercise caution before purchasing any product in the above categories.”

The FDA maintains a list products of known to contain hidden ingredients that may be harmful to some consumers.

The O.M.G. product is no longer available at Sears.com.
