It seems that the fight to make or break ethanol is falling in the favor of the pro-ethanol crowd. While many argue against ethanol, Brazil’s ethanol program at least makes more sense and has been viable without all the subsidies. Today, the Brazilian government earmarked almost $1 billion (US) for an ethanol storage program.
It looks like this was meant to take off the downward pressure off of ethanol prices at harvest time because the mills often flood the market.
Many still argue that the deforestation that has been done in Brazil in order to grow sugarcane which is ultimately burned and processed uses up more energy than if the auto sector just ran off of clean-diesel or gasoline.
