A month ago that gallon of gasoline cost $2.809 on average in St. Louis, according to GasBuddy. If the price falls that much again ($0.42 a gallon), a gallon of gasoline in St. Louis will cost less than $2.00 on New Year’s Day — $1.969 to be exact.
The 15 cities where the average price of a gallon of gas is now less than $2.50 are:

Amarillo, Texas, $2.421
Santa Fe, N.M., $2.423

Kansas City, Mo., $2.468
Chattanooga, Tenn., $2.471
Greenville, S.C., $2.480
El Paso, Texas, $2.481
Myrtle Beach, S.C., $2.482
Fort Worth, Texas, $2.486
Dallas, Texas, $2.497
Only one state, Missouri, boasts an average price below $2.50 a gallon, but Oklahoma, South Carolina, Mississippi and Texas are close, ranging from $2.511 to $2.529.
