$30 Million Beverly Hills Mansion Leads List of Most Expensive Homes

If it weren’t for William Mulholland, Los Angeles would very likely not be the second-largest city in the United States. It might not even make the top 100. Mulholland was the engineer who brought water to city and, as a reward, had one of the city’s main thoroughfares named after him.

Mulholland Drive runs through the Hollywood Hills, just below the famous Hollywood sign, and at the top of the hill is a four-acre estate that is this week’s most expensive real-estate listing.

The house, built in 1992, has 10 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, marble, wood and carpeted floors, and a total of 17,000 square feet of living space. Outside there’s a spa, two pools, and parking for more than 30 cars. The house has been listed for sale for just 11 days and the asking price is $29.95 million.

Further up the coast in the town of Dana Point, Realtor.com lists an oceanfront property with five bedrooms, six full bathrooms and two half-bathrooms on a quarter-acre lot for $25.995 million. The property is located in a gated community and includes a theater with an indoor driving range. The home was built this year.

The first of two homes located outside California in this week’s top five listing is a six-bedroom 32,000-square-foot property in the Cherry Hills area of Englewood, Colorado. The former home of former Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan was built in 2008 and is listed for sale at $22 million. The house features a bowling alley, racquetball court, poker room and golf simulator.

Tied for fourth in this week’s listings are a ranch-style home in Santa Paula, California, and a penthouse in the Tribeca area of New York City. Both are listed for sale at $20 million.

The Santa Paula property includes a three-bedroom house with two full bathrooms and one half-bathroom on nearly 1,300 acres. Some 145 acres are planted in avocado and lemon trees and the property includes three additional residences and other outbuildings.

The Tribeca penthouse includes four bedrooms and five full bathrooms on the top floor of the Sterling Mason and includes a 1,065-square-foot terrace. The 4,986-square-foot penthouse is one of three in the building and has two floors. The monthly building maintenance fee, in addition to the purchase price, is $8,568 and includes a doorman.
