Chip making giant Intel Corp. (NASDAQ: INTC) has taken a 10% stake in Swedish technology firm Tobii Technology AB for an investment of about $21 million. Tobii offers products that track a computer users eye movements, a technology that has been taken up by the advertising and healthcare industries, but with significant potential in gaming.
The company demonstrated the technology at January’s Consumer Electronics Show, using the eye-tracking technology to replace the mouse on a PC running Windows 8 software from Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT). Tobii — and now Intel — would like to see the eye-control technology adopted in the wider consumer realm.
Intel made the investment through its Intel Capital investment group.
