The Nikkei rose .6% to 15,223. Daiwa Securities rose 4.2% to 1095. Hitachi (HIT) rose 2% to 765. Sony (SNE) rose 4.5% to 5750.
The Hang Seng fell 1.5% to 27,210. HSBC (HBC) fell 1.9% to 130.9. China Netcom (CN) fell 2.7% to 21.3.
The Shanghai Composite fell 2% to 4,861.
