Top Rumors of the Day (May 6, 2010)

The rumor mill usually runs into trouble or gets light on Thursday ahead of the crazy “Rumor Friday”… Yet there are still several ongoing and newer issues running around Wall Street and Main Street.

WSJ: There is speculation again that a mega-merger of $10 billion or more could come from the private equity sector.

There are not quite rumors of a resignation, but the WSJ was first to bring it up and is now going further in Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE: GS) with a story that Blankfein should resign.

Various rumors have Verizon Communications (NYSE: VZ) set to release the iPhone from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) as soon as this summer.

American International Group (NYSE: AIG) is bucking rumors that the Asian business unit sale is going to get wrecked after UK regulators have temporarily blocked the huge rights offering from Prudential plc to pay for the unit acquisition.

This will be updated throughout the day if there are changes or new breaking “rumors” worth noting.
