The news that the Keystone Pipeline from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico is being rejected again by the White House is a victory for some, but it is a mystery to many. Forget about the 20,000 jobs or so that it might create. This was an opportunity for America to have just that much more of its energy coming from “less hostile sources” because it would have been Canada’s oil rather than oil from the Middle East. So goes the logic at any rate.
Today on CNBC, in a telephone interview, the billionaire and well-known oil magnate T. Boone Pickens blasted the blocked pipeline. He noted, “We’re complete fools…”
Now it looks like a far higher chance that Canada’s oil will go in different pipeline. A pipeline that heads west over the mountains to Canada’s western ports. That oil will be loaded on Chinese tankers headed for China.
