People in India can join global counterparts around the world and buy $5 cups of coffee. Starbucks (NASDAQ: SBUX), one of the great retail success stories since the recession, will open its first store in India with Tata Global Beverages. Starbucks recently release quarterly numbers which show its growth rate has remained rapid since it laid off 12,000 in 2008. Starbucks has done a number of things to insure ensure its growth. It has begun to serve liquor, as an experiment, in some of its stores
Starbucks announced
Tata Global Beverages Limited and Starbucks Coffee announced a joint venture between the iconic international coffee brand and the 2nd largest branded tea company in the world. The 50/50 joint venture, named TATA Starbucks Limited, will own and operate Starbucks cafés which will be branded as Starbucks Coffee “A Tata Alliance.”
The retail stores will be developed in cities across the country, beginning with stores in Delhi and Mumbai in calendar 2012.
