There is going to be some concerning news if you are on birth control pills made by Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE). The drug giant is announcing a product recall of birth control pills. While there are some packaging issues, it appears that some inactive placebo may have been distributed ‘out of order’ along with the actual drugs in place of the active pills.
The company’s recall is of the Lo/Ovral®-28 and Norgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol Tablets (generic) birth control pills.
The company noted, “We understand that this news can be very concerning and confusing for any woman who takes birth control pills to protect against unintended pregnancies. We share your concerns and want to provide you with the most up-to-date and accurate information.”
Very concerning and confusing… Really? That is an understatement.
The company went on to say that there may be an issue with the way some of these pills were packaged, and also that the inactive or placebo pill may have been placed out-of-order in some packs.
Here is the good news… Pfizer noted, “…we believe there are approximately 30 packs of birth control pills that may have received an inexact count or inactive tablet.” As far as the actual size of this recall, it is called as 28 lots, or approximately 1 million packs.
