Jim Cramer is out with another stock comparison feature this evening on CNBC’s MAD MONEY calling for a comparison analysis between Coach, Inc. (NYSE: COH) and Tiffany & Co. (NYSE: TIF) as plays to bet on luxury as the market and economy continue to improve. Cramer has been positive on both companies in the past. Not tonight. Cramer calls for Coach as a victor over Tiffany for investor portfolios today.
Tiffany is tied much more to Wall Street bonuses, which were gutted recently… Coach has only 4% of its business from China now and thinks that it has more room to grow there. Cramer also thinks that Coach has a better situation against gold and silver than Tiffany does as well. Margins are higher… Cramer said that both stocks are at reasonable price.
Cramer called Coach a total winner and said that Tiffany won’t do as well unless two things occur: gold and silver prices plummet and Wall Street bonuses come way back up. Those two suppositions are not very widely expected.
Coach closed down two-cents at $72.57, its 52-week trading range is $45.70 to $72.71 and that 52-week high was just hit today. Actually, make that an all-time high.
