The east coast of Scotland and the northeast coast of England are among the windiest places in the world, and the two areas are about to add some hot air to the mix. Spanish energy company Gamesa is deciding on a location for $257 million investment in a wind energy center to service the wind farms sprouting off the nearby coasts.
The initial investment could lead to the creation of 1,200 new jobs in the Scottish port of Leith or the English city of Hartlepool. The UK expects to see a total investment of some $52 billion over the next eight years in the wind energy industry. Whether many of the benefits of that investment go to Scotland or England is no small matter.
