Shortly after noon ET today, the three major US stock indexes have all moved solidly higher. The DJIA is up nearly 25 points at around13,219, the Nasdaq up nearly 10 points at 3,050, and the S&P 500 up more than 4 points to around 1,399. Good manufacturing reports and an in-line report on the producer price index are helping keep stocks higher. The dollar is lower today, with the dollar index down -0.36% at 80.274. Crude prices are also lower, with Brent down -1.72% and WTI down -1.16%.
Among the major movers at around noon today are Winnebago Industries Inc. (NYSE: WGO), Aixtron SE (NASDAQ: AIXG), Euro Tech Holdings Co. Ltd. (NASDAQ: CLWT), Vera Bradley Inc. (NASDAQ: VRA), and Verso Paper Corp. (NYSE: VRS).
Winnebago is up about 17% at $10.4. Volume is already about 4x the daily average of about 250,000 shares traded. The recreational vehicle maker missed estimates this morning, but reported a strong order backlog.
Aixtron is up more than 15% at $18.84. Volume is already about 1.5x the daily average of around 234,000 shares traded. The LED maker is getting a boost from an analyst’s upgrade, as is competitor Veco Instruments Inc. (NASDAQ: VECO).
Euro Tech is up nearly 45% at $4.20. Volume is already more than double the daily average of around 7,000 shares traded. The Chinese water treatment company has been awarded two new contracts.
American Apparel is down more than -8% at $34.02. Volume is already nearly 5x the daily average of around 630,000 shares traded. The apparel maker reported in-line earnings and revenues, but forecast a weak first quarter.
Verso Paper is down more than -13% at $1.76. Volume is already higher than the daily average of around 183,000 shares traded. The paper firm is giving back last week’s gains as its tender offer had to be extended.
