Today's Market Winners and Losers

The stock market is down Friday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.77%, the Nasdaq down 0.72% and the S&P 500 down 0.69%. Today’s big winner was a smartphone maker who beat Wall St. earnings expectations and today’s big loser was a telecommunications equipment manufacturer that lowered its earnings guidance for the upcoming quarter.

This is Friday’s market winner and loser.

Biggest Winner

Shares of Research In Motion Ltd. (NASDAQ: RIMM) are up 12.04% to $8.00 on trading volume of 47.7million shares. Despite the fact that BlackBerry shipments shrunk about 30% and the company reported a second quarter loss of 45 cents a share, the results did beat analyst expectations. Wall St. analysts expected a loss of 46 cents a share. The 52-week high is $24.74.

Biggest Loser

Shares of ADTRAN Inc. (NASDAQ: ADTN) are down 8.64% to $17.50 on trading volume of 2.6 million shares. The company, which provides equipment for telecommunications firms, lowered its third-quarter earnings guidance on Friday. Before Friday, the 52-week low was $18.85.
