A federal court has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) against Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) related to Google’s use of patents it acquired with its $12.5 billion acquisition of Motorola Mobility in May. The suit was tossed “with prejudice,” which means the trial scheduled to start soon will be canceled. Apple can still appeal the ruling, however.

Reuters cited an email from a Google spokeswoman:

Motorola has long offered licensing to our extensive patent portfolio at a reasonable and non-discriminatory rate in line with industry standards. We remain interested in reaching an agreement with Apple.

Google, Apple, and Samsung are involved in numerous patent cases around the world, each charging the other with infringement of mobile patents.

Google’s shares got a bit of a boost following the ruling, but still finished the day down about 0.7% at $682.96 in a 52-week range of $556.52 to $774.38.

Apple’s shares closed up 1.4% today, at $584.80 in a 52-week range of $363.32 to $705.07.
