October 6, 2014: Markets opened higher on Monday but turned lower early in the day as the dollar headed for a lower close and oil closed above $90 a barrel after falling earlier in the day. Shortly before the closing bell the DJIA traded down 0.05% for the day, the S&P 500 traded down 0.11%, and the Nasdaq Composite traded down 0.43%.

The Dow 30 stock posting the largest move in either direction ahead of the close today was The Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE: KO) which traded up 1.47% today at $43.67. The stock’s 52-week range is $36.83 to $43.50, and shares came with pennies of the 52-week high. The beverage company had no specific news today. Volume was about 10% above the daily average of 13.7 million shares.

The stock posting the second-largest gain today was Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) which traded higher by 0.83% at $50.12. The stock’s 52-week range is $45.45 to $53.66. (NYSE: HPQ) has kept the pressure on tech stocks today.

Nike Inc. (NYSE: NKE) traded down 1.01% at $89.39. The stock’s 52-week range is $69.85 to $90.52, and the high was set earlier today. Trading volume was about 25% below the daily average of around 3.7 million shares. There was no specific news on Nike today.
