The 4 Stocks That Lifted the DJIA on Friday

February 13, 2015: Markets opened higher again on Friday following better-than-expected GDP reports from the eurozone and higher market closes in Asia. Afternoon trading was light as traders got a headstart on the President’s Day holiday weekend. Shortly before the closing bell the DJIA traded up 0.22% for the day, the S&P 500 traded up 0.32%, and the Nasdaq Composite traded up 0.62%.

The DJIA stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close Friday was Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) which traded up 1.83% at $85.06. The stock’s 52-week range is $78.81 to $111.46. Trading volume was about 25% below the daily average of around 6.5 million shares. The company’s CEO said that the woes in China’s economy will sort themselves out and Caterpillar will be part of a “fantastic market.”

Chevron Corp. (NYSE: CVX) traded up 1.64% at $112.68. The stock’s 52-week range is $98.88 to $135.10. Trading volume was about 40% below the daily average of around 9.5 million shares. The company had no specific news today, but a jump of 3% in crude oil prices drew some investors to Chevron today.

Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) traded up 1.55% at $43.76. The stock’s 52-week range is $37.19 to $50.05. Trading volume was about equal to the daily average of around 35 million shares. The company had no specific news today.

International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE: IBM) traded higher by 1.25% at $160.51. The stock’s 52-week range is $149.52 to $199.21. Trading volume was about 30% below the daily average of around 5 million shares. The company had no specific news today.

Of the Dow 30 stocks 15 are set to close higher today and 15 are on track to close lower.
