Even though sales were lower than expected the overall trend of new home sales for the past four months is definitely on an upward trajectory. Shortly before the closing bell the DJIA traded up 0.27% for the day, the S&P 500 traded up 0.36%, and the Nasdaq Composite traded up 0.51%.

The DJIA stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close Thursday was International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE: IBM) which traded up 2.46% at $169.43. The stock’s 52-week range is $149.52 to $196.86. Trading volume was about 50% above the daily average of around 4.5 million shares. The company had no specific news today.

The Travelers Companies Inc. (NYSE: TRV) traded up 1.76% at $103.82. The stock’s 52-week range is $87.99 to $110.49. Trading volume was about 20% above the daily average of around 2 million shares. The company had no specific news today.

Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) traded up 1.07% at $43.44. The stock’s 52-week range is $38.51 to $50.05. Trading volume was about equal to the daily average of around 38.8 million shares. The company reports earnings after markets close today.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) traded higher by 1.00% at $129.91. The stock’s 52-week range is $80.10 to $133.60. Trading volume was about 15% below the daily average of around 54 million shares. The company had no specific news today.
