The 4 Stocks That Carried the DJIA Higher on Thursday

May 20 2015: Markets opened lower on Thursday but soon turned north as crude oil prices rose and carried energy stocks along. Yield on 10-year Treasuries are down and the dollar also traded lower today. Shortly before the closing bell the DJIA traded up 0.14% for the day, the S&P 500 traded up 0.36%, and the Nasdaq Composite traded up 0.48%.
The DJIA stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close Thursday was Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) which traded higher by 1.55% at $89.29. The stock’s 52-week range is $78.19 to $111.46. Trading volume was about 20% below the daily average of around 5.3 million shares. The company reported sales figures yesterday that showed that an upturn in North America continues and that worldwide sales fell by a smaller amount in April than in March.
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) traded up 1.20% at $131.63. The stock’s 52-week range is $86.30 to $134.54. Trading volume was about 35% below the daily average of around 51 million shares. The company had no specific news today.
The Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) traded up 0.81% at $147.60. The stock’s 52-week range is $116.32 to $158.83. Trading volume was about half the daily average of around 4 million shares. The U.S. Senate will hold a separate vote on the U.S. Export-Import Bank in June as part of a deal to keep moving the fast-track legislation ahead.
Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) traded up 0.68% at $50.02. The stock’s 52-week range is $45.09 to $53.66. Trading volume was about 65% below the daily average of around 14.8 million shares. The company had no specific news today.
Of the Dow 30 stocks 18 are set to close higher today and 12 are on track to close lower.
