June 12, 2015: Markets opened lower on Friday as a solution to the Greek-European Union seems to draw further away from negotiators. Energy and healthcare stocks both opened weak and were able to wrestle back only a portion of the early losses. Shortly before the closing bell the DJIA traded down 0.76% for the day, the S&P 500 traded down 0.68%, and the Nasdaq Composite traded down 0.59%.

The DJIA stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close Friday was Merck & Co. Inc.  (NYSE: MRK) which traded down 1.79% at $57.86. The stock’s 52-week range is $52.49 to $63.62. Trading volume totaled about 11.3 million shares, about equal to the daily average. The company had no specific news today.

Intel Corp. (NASDAQ: INTC) traded down 1.76% at $31.29 The stock’s 52-week range is $29.31 to $37.90. Trading volume totaled about 25 million shares, well below the daily average of more than 31 million. The company had no specific news today.

UnitedHealth Group Inc. (NYSE: UNH) traded down 1.44% at $117.60. The stock’s 52-week range is $77.53 to $123.76. About 2.5 million shares traded hands today, about  two-thirds of the daily average. The company also had no specific news today.

Chevron Corp. (NYSE: CVX) traded lower by 1.15%% at $99.96. The stock’s 52-week range is $98.88 to $135.10. Trading volume was around 5.2million shares, well below the daily average of around 6.7 million. The company was hit by the drop in oil and natural gas prices.

All 30 Dow stocks are on track to close lower today.
