Chesapeake Energy Corp. (NYSE: CHK) dropped about 12.8% on Wednesday to post a new 52-week low at $6.98 after closing at $8.00 on Tuesday. The stock’s 52-week high is $27.24. Share volume totaled around 40 million, nearly 80% above the daily average of around 23 million. The company reported a big second quarter loss and another massive asset writedown.

Freeport-McMoRan Inc. (NYSE: FCX) dropped about 1% on Wednesday matched the 52-week low of $10.93 it set yesterday after closing at $11.04 on Tuesday. The stock’s 52-week high is $37.53. Share volume totaled around 31 million shares, about 55% above the daily average of around 20 million. The company had no specific news again today.

Genworth Financial Inc. (NYSE: GNW) posted a new 52-week low on Wednesday. Shares dropped nearly 19% to a low of $5.70 from Tuesday’s closing price of $7.02. The stock’s 52-week high is $14.32. Volume rose to about four times the daily average of around 6.1 million. The company announced weak second-quarter results yesterday.

Kinder Morgan Inc. (NYSE: KMI) dropped about 3.6% on Wednesday to post a new 52-week low of $32.45 against a 52-week high of $44.71. The stock closed at $33.66 on Tuesday night. Volume totaled about 16 million shares, about 30% higher than the daily average of around 12 million shares traded. The company had no specific news today.
