The 52-Week Low Club for Wednesday

September 23, 2015: Here are four stocks trading with heavy volume among 312 equities making new 52-week lows today.

Petroleo Brasileiro SA (NYSE: PBR) dropped about 5% on Wednesday to post a new 52-week low at $3.89 after closing at $4.10 on Tuesday. The stock’s 52-week high is $17.64. Share volume was about 10% above the daily average of around 32.6 million. The Brazilian oil giant had no specific news today, but a drop in crude oil prices following weak manufacturing data from China did nothing to brighten Petrobras’s outlook.

Itaú Unibanco Holding SA (NYSE: ITUB) dropped about 5.6% on Wednesday to post a new 52-week low of $6.36 against a 52-week high of $16.21. The stock closed at $6.74 on Tuesday night. Volume is about equal to the daily average of around 16.8 million shares traded. Brazil’s currency hit an all-time low earlier today.

Barrick Gold Corp. (NYSE: ABX) posted a new 52-week low on Wednesday. Shares dropped about 3.3% to a low of $5.91 from Tuesday’s closing price of $6.11. The stock’s 52-week high is $15.65. Volume was about 30% below the daily average of around 21 million. Some of the company’s operations in Argentina have been suspended due to a spill.

United States Steel Corp. (NYSE: X) dropped about 5.6% on Wednesday to set a new 52-week low of $11.16 after closing at $11.82 on Tuesday. The stock’s 52-week high is $44.18. Share volume is about 10% below the daily average of around 11 million. The company is scheduled to resume talks with its United Steelworkers union employees this weekend.
