Vale SA (NYSE: VALE) posted a new low on Monday. Shares dropped about 1.8% to a low of $3.73 from Friday’s closing price of $3.80. The stock’s 52-week high is $9.55. Volume was about equal to the daily average of about 26 million shares. The world’s largest producer of iron ore is suffering from high production and multi-year low prices.
Chesapeake Energy Corp. (NYSE: CHK) dropped less than 1% on Monday to post a new 52-week low of $5.04 against a high of $24.40. The stock closed at $5.40 on Friday night. Volume reached about 85% of the daily average of around 20 million shares traded. Lower crude oil prices never help a producer like Chesapeake, but the company continues to struggle with high debt and low prices for its oil and gas production.
Southwestern Energy Co. (NYSE: SWN) dropped about 3.8% on Monday to post a new 52-week low of $8.70 against a 52-week high of $34.24. The stock closed at $9.04 on Friday night. Volume was about 10% above the daily average of around 13.2 million shares traded. Another commodity energy producer that has been hit hard and often by falling natural gas prices.
GoPro Inc. (NASDAQ: GPRO) dropped by about 8% on Monday to post a new 52-week low at $18.80 after closing at $20.45 on Friday. The stock’s 52-week high is $80.61. Share volume was about equal to the daily average of around 10.5 million. The steelmaker had no specific news today.
