The 52-Week Low Club for Wednesday

December 30, 2015: Here are four stocks trading with heavy volume among 42 equities making new 52-week lows today.

SeaDrill Ltd. (NYSE: SDRL) dropped about 6.9% on Wednesday to post a new 52-week low of $3.39 against a 52-week high of $15.44. The stock closed at $3.64 on Tuesday night. Volume reached about 6.3 million shares, roughly two-thirds of the stock’s daily average volume. The offshore drilling company had no specific news today.

WPX Energy Inc. (NYSE: WPX) dropped about 4.2% on Wednesday to post a new 52-week low at $5.03 after closing at $5.25 on Tuesday. The stock’s 52-week high is $14.65. Share volume of about 4.2 million was about half the daily average of around 8.5 million shares traded. The independent oil & gas producer had no specific news today, but this is stock’s second consecutive day on our list.

Energen Corp. (NYSE: EGN) slipped about 5.8% on Wednesday to post a new 52-week low of $39.99 against a high of $77.12. The stock closed at $42.44 on Tuesday night. Volume rose to around 1.1 million, about 10% higher than the daily average of around 970,000 shares traded. Another independent oil & gas producer hit by the today’s tumbling oil price.

SM Energy Co. (NYSE: SM) posted a new low on Wednesday. Shares dropped about 3.9% to a low of $18.19 from Tuesday’s closing price of $18.92. The stock’s 52-week high is $60.28. Volume was about 10% lower than the daily average of around 2.4 million shares. Another independent oil & gas producer that got nailed today.
