The 52-Week Low Club for Thursday

January 14, 2016: Here are four stocks trading with heavy volume among 916 equities making new 52-week lows today.

Regions Financial Corp. (NYSE: RF) dropped about 1.9% on Thursday to post a new 52-week low of $8.17 against a 52-week high of $10.87. The stock closed at $8.33 on Wednesday night. Volume topped 35 million shares, more than double the stock’s daily average volume of around 17 million. The bank reports fourth-quarter results tomorrow morning and investors appear to have the jitters.

Alcoa Inc. (NYSE: AA) fell about 3.9% on Thursday to post a new 52-week low of $6.85 against a high of $17.10. The stock closed at $7.13 on Wednesday night. Volume rose to around 33 million, about 10% above the daily average of around 31 million shares traded. The mining giant’s stock was downgraded at Argus this morning.

Twitter Inc. (NYSE: TWTR) dropped about 7.5% on Thursday to post a new 52-week low at $17.27 after closing at $18.68 on Wednesday. The stock’s 52-week high is $53.49. Share volume totaled around 33 million shares compared with the daily average of around 20 million shares traded. A lawsuit was filed against the company today by the widow of an American killed in Jordan alleging that Twitter knowingly let the Islamic State group use its network to spread terrorism.

Micron Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: MU) posted a new low on Thursday. Shares dropped about 4.4% to a low of $11.53 from Wednesday’s closing price of $12.06. The stock’s 52-week high is $32.84. Volume was about 40% above the daily average of around 23 million shares. The chipmaker had no specific new today.
