Rite Aid, Supervalu Slump into Monday's 52-Week Low Club

February 6, 2017: Here are four stocks trading with relatively heavy volume among 38 equities making new 52-week lows in Monday’s session. On the NYSE, decliners led advancers by about 3 to 2 and on the Nasdaq decliners led advancers by about 6 to 5.

PharmAthene Inc. (NYSEMKT: PIP) dropped about 86% Monday, to post a new 52-week low of $0.47 after closing at $3.30 on Friday. The stock’s 52-week high is $3.50. Volume was about 30 times the daily average of around 1.2 million shares. The company paid a special dividend of $2.91 on Friday in advance of its announced merger with privately held Altimmune.

RiteAid Inc. (NYSE: RAD) dropped about 1.3% Monday to post a new 52-week low of $5.20 after closing Friday at $5.27. The 52-week high is $8.77. Volume of more than 10 million was less than half the daily average of around 24 million shares traded. The company had no specific news.

Supervalu Inc. (NYSE: SVU) dropped about 4.7% Monday, to post a new 52-week low of $3.64 after closing at $3.82 on Friday. The stock’s 52-week high is $6.17. Volume was about 80% higher than the daily average of around 3.3 million shares. The supermarket operator had no specific news.

Ralph Lauren Corp. (NYSE: RL) dropped about 0.7% on Monday to record a new 52-week low of $75.62. The stock closed at $76.17 on Friday. Volume was more than 3 times the daily average of around 1.5 million shares. The company had no specific news, but the fallout continues from last week’s hasty departure of the company’s CEO.
