Tuesday's Biggest Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

June 13, 2017: The S&P 500 closed higher, up 0.45% at 2,440.33. The DJIA closed up 0.4% at 21,327.92. Separately, the Nasdaq closed higher 0.7% at 6,220.37.

Tuesday was a very strong day for the U.S. broad markets canceling out what was a sluggish Monday. The S&P 500 Index came within 5 points of all-time highs, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average hit an all-time high on Tuesday.

There were green arrows practically everywhere with only a few exceptions, notably in telecom stocks. Seperately, GE and Merck were the only major companies posting a loss. Crude Oil made a solid gain on the day and Oil & Gas stocks were all positive across the board. Amazon and mega-cap tech stocks also helped boost the Nasdaq closer to its highs.

Crude oil was positive on the day and was last trading up 1% at $46.53.

Gold was relatively flat at $1,268.70.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close Tuesday was Mylan N.V. (NASDAQ: MYL) which traded down about 3% at $37.72. The stock’s 52-week range is $33.60 to $50.40. Volume was nearly 7 million versus the daily average of 5.6 million shares.

The stock posting the largest daily percentage gain in the S&P 500 ahead of the close Tuesday was Frontier Communications Corp. (NASDAQ: FTR), which rose about 6% to $1.35. The stock’s 52-week range is $1.19 to $5.22. Volume was over 35 million on the day compared to the average of 47.3 million.
