J.C. Penney, Whiting Petroleum Fall into Monday’s 52-Week Low Club

August 14, 2017: Here are four stocks trading with heavy volume among 120 equities making new 52-week lows in Monday’s session. On the NYSE, advancers led decliners by more than 3 to 1 and on the Nasdaq advancers led decliners by the same margin.

J.C. Penney Co. Inc. (NYSE: JCP) dropped about 4.8% Monday to post a new 52-week low of $3.74 after closing Friday at $3.93. The 52-week high is $11.30. Volume of about more than 30 million shares traded was 60% above the daily average of around 18.5 million. The company’s second-quarter earnings report released last Thursday has wreaked havoc on the share price.

Whiting Petroleum Corp. (NYSE: WLL) dropped about 4% Monday to post a new 52-week low of $4.60 after closing at $4.79 on Friday. The stock’s 52-week high is $13.39. Volume of more than 13 million was around 40% below the daily average of about 22 million. The company had no specific news.

Nabors Industries Ltd. (NYSE: NBR) dropped about 4.9% Monday to register a new 52-week low of $6.47 after closing at $6.79 on Friday. The 52-week high is $18.40. Volume was around 12 million, about 30% above the daily average. The oil field services firm said today it will acquire Tesco Corp. (NASDAQ: TESO).

Synergy Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: SGYP) posted a new 52-week low of $2.88 on Monday, down about 3.5% from Friday’s closing price of $2.98. The stock’s 52-week high is $7.15. Volume totaled nearly 7 million shares, about 40% below the daily average of around 4.8 million. The company had no specific news.
