Tuesday's Biggest Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

August 22, 2017: The S&P 500 closed up 1% at 2,452.46. The DJIA closed up 0.9% at 21,899.35. Separately, the Nasdaq closed up 1.4% at 6,297.48.

Tuesday was a very strong day for the U.S. broad markets with all major indices posting a gain on the day. Crude oil was positive as well after having fallen over the course of the last few weeks. In terms of the S&P 500 sectors all were positive on Tuesday with tech leading the charge. Real estate was the weakest performing sector.

Crude oil was last seen up 0.6% at $47.65.

Gold was down 0.5% at $1,290.50.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close Tuesday was Frontier Communications Corp. (NASDAQ: FTR) which traded down over 5% at $12.04. The stock’s 52-week range is $11.97 to $72.00. Volume was about 4 million versus the daily average of 2.8 million shares.

The stock posting the largest daily percentage gain in the S&P 500 ahead of the close Tuesday was Macy’s, Inc. (NYSE: M) which rose 4.6% to $20.41. The stock’s 52-week range is $19.32 to $45.41. Volume was just over 16 million compared to its average volume of 9.3 million.
