Wednesday's Biggest Winners & Losers in the S&P 500

September 27, 2017: The S&P 500 closed up 0.4% at 2,507.14. The DJIA closed up 0.25% at 22,341.05. Separately, the Nasdaq was up 1.15% at 6,453.26.

Wednesday was a positive day for the broad markets, seemingly making up for shortcomings earlier this week. Crude oil bounced back after taking a step back on Tuesday. The best performing sector in the S&P 500 was finance, which was up about 1.3%, although this was followed closely by technology which was up 1.1%. The worst performing sector was utilities which was down 1.3%.

Crude oil was up about 0.4% at $52.08.

Gold was down over 1% at $1,286.40.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close Wednesday was SCANA Corp. (NYSE: SCG) which traded down about 8% at $51.22. The stock’s 52-week range is $51.04 to $74.99. Volume was 3.6 million versus the daily average of 1.3 million shares.

The stock posting the largest daily percentage gain in the S&P 500 ahead of the close Wednesday was Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: MU) which rose more than 8% to $37.09. The stock’s 52-week range is $16.17 to $37.15. Volume was 83.2 million compared to its average volume of 28.7 million.
