Monday's Biggest Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

October 16, 2017: The S&P 500 closed up 0.18% at 2,557.64. The DJIA closed up 0.37% at 22,956.96. Separately, the Nasdaq was up 0.28% at 6,624.00.

Monday was a positive day for the U.S. broad markets with all exchanges hitting new all-time highs. Crude oil started out the week with a solid gain, pushing farther past $50. The S&P 500 sectors were mostly positive with a few exceptions. The best performing sectors were Financials and Technology which were up 0.61% and 0.36%, respectively. The worst performing sectors were Real Estate and Health Care down 0.48% and 0.46%, respectively.

Crude oil was up 0.78% at $51.85.

Gold was down 0.6% at $1,296.70.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close Monday was PG&E Corp. (NYSE: PCG) which traded down 7.5% at $53.38. The stock’s 52-week range is $49.83 to $71.57. Volume was 60 million versus the daily average of 2.6 million shares.

The stock posting the largest daily percentage gain in the S&P 500 ahead of the close Monday was Davita Inc. (NYSE: DVA) which rose 4% to $56.94. The stock’s 52-week range is $53.58 to $70.16. Volume was 4.8 million compared to its average volume of 1.8 million.
