
October 26, 2017: The S&P 500 closed up 0.13% at 2,560.37. The DJIA closed up 0.3% at 23,400.14. Separately, the Nasdaq was slightly down 0.1% at 6,556.77.
Thursday was relatively positive day for the markets with the Dow and S&P 500 posting decent gains for the day. Crude oil started out flat but came on strong in the afternoon. The S&P 500 sectors were mostly positive in the session with two big exceptions. The best performing sectors were materials and finance, up 1.4% and 0.6%, respectively. The worst performing sectors were healthcare and real estate, down 1%, and 0.6%, respectively.
Crude oil was up 0.9% at $52.66.
Gold was down about 1% at $1,266.90.
The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close Thursday was Celgene Corp. (NASDAQ: CELG) which traded down 16% at $99.99. The stock’s 52-week range is $94.55 to $147.17. Volume was about 69 million versus the daily average 4.3 million shares.
The stock posting the largest daily percentage gain in the S&P 500 ahead of the close Thursday was O’Reilly Automotive, Inc. (NASDAQ: ORLY) which rose over 5% to $214.00. The stock’s 52-week range is $169.43 to $286.57. Volume was 4.3 million compared to its average volume of 1.2 million.
