Wednesday's Biggest Winner and Loser Among the S&P 500

November, 1, 2017: The S&P 500 closed up 0.16% at 2,579.36. The DJIA closed up 0.25% at 23,435.01 and the Nasdaq closed down 0.17% at 6,716.53.
Trading opened higher this morning but the Nasdaq could not hold onto its gains past the mid-morning mark. The crude oil inventory report wiped out a 1% gain in crude oil prices but the energy sector ended the session up more than 1% on strength in services firms. Telecom and utilities were the day’s laggards.
Crude oil was last seen down about 0.3% at $54.22.
Gold was last seen at $1,279.40 after settling up 0.5% at $1,279.30.
The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close Wednesday was China Internet Nationwide Financial Services Inc. (NASDAQ: CIFS) which traded down about 27.5% at $30.01. The stock’s 52-week range is $10.81 to $43.30. Volume was 645,000 versus the daily average of 185,000 shares.
The stock posting the largest daily percentage gain in the S&P 500 ahead of the close Wednesday was Leading Brands Inc. (NASDAQ: LBIX) which rose about 35.4% to $2.02. The stock’s 52-week range is $0.74 to $3.75. Volume was 13.9 million compared to its average volume of 1.1 million.
